Hello everyone,
We’d like to share a special opportunity to watch a Korean independent film with English subtitles, currently being shown as a special theatrical screening in Korea.
About the title
Hallan (한란) takes its name from Hallasan, the highest mountain on Jeju Island.
During the Jeju 4·3 events of 1948, many civilians fled into the mountain to survive.
In this film, Hallan symbolizes both a place of refuge and a place of fear, reflecting the fragile lives caught in extreme violence.
The Korean title also carries the meaning of endurance, survival, and holding on to life against all odds.
About the film
Set during the Jeju 4·3 tragedy, the film follows the journey of a mother and her young daughter as they struggle to survive.
Rather than focusing on politics, the story is told through intimate human experiences—a woman’s and a child’s perspective on loss, fear, and the will to live.
